Chinese medicine practitioner
Shameela Pacquet
I studied at the New Zealand College of Chinese Medicine, and graduated with a Bachelor of Health Science majoring in Chinese medicine. My major included acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. In addition to rigorous academic coursework, the program included clinical practice, where I gained practical experience treating patients with acupuncture and herbal medicine.
The aspect that most endears me to Chinese medicine, is the importance of the individual. This aspect has influenced how I practice acupuncture. I draw from several ‘styles’ of acupuncture depending on the needs of each individual I see. These styles include acupuncture based on Wu Xing theory, Tung style, and Balance (Tan) style.
I am registered with the Chinese Medicine Council of NZ. I hold registration and practising certificates for both acupuncture and herbal medicine and am a member of Acupuncture NZ.
Before I trained in Chinese medicine, I was a teacher. I completed my undergrad/postgrad training in Christchurch in the early 00s before heading off to Australia to teach. Alongside teaching, I travelled often to India. There I studied at the Pranavashya Yoga Shala in Mysuru, and the Tushita Meditation Centre in Dharamsala.
Currently, my family (myself, my husband, and our young daughter) live in North Brighton.
